Maison Cire Trudon: the only royal & oldest wax manufactory in France

It all began with Claude Trudon the founder and name giver of Maison Cire Trudon. He once ran a modest shop on Rue Saint Honoré in Paris. There, in addition to food, he sold candles and spices, his real passion. A passionate wax maker, he initially sold his candles to private customers and church communities. The founding of the family manufactory was the beginning of increasing fame. Through his son Jaques, who was also a candle maker and druggist, the royal family became aware of the small candle manufactory. As an apothecary and brandy distiller, Jaques acted on behalf of Queen Marie-Thérèse and was a frequent guest at court.

In 1700, the Trudon family was elevated to nobility by the king on account of their highly esteemed achievements, and shortly afterwards the family manufactory was awarded the title of the first and only royal wax manufactory in France. As lighting for all festivities, the luxurious scented candles survived the French Revolution and even despite increasing modernisation, Cire Trudon candles did not lose their popularity. In 1889, they were honoured at the World's Fair with their first of many gold medals. As of April 1929, the oldest wax manufactory in the world is considered a historic monument that can still be visited today.

Besides the classic candles, Cire Trudon likes to surprise with special scented candle lines such as the limited Christmas collection of 2020 or the new Alabaster candles. Finished with gold leaf for the festive season or wrapped in precious alabaster vessels, the exceptional scented candles turn any room into a olfactory and aesthetic eye-catcher.

Cire Trudon - Ingredients & Manufacture

ACTIVE MATERIALS & MANUFACTURING

Exclusive scented candles from Cire Trudon without paraffin – masterfully royal thanks to traditional manufacturing processes

The passed-down savoir-faire of French candle-making masters is evident in the quality candles from Cire Trudon. Only certified plant and bee waxes find their way into the exclusive candle compositions, along with natural and a few synthetic raw materials.

Salvaged from the regional beehives of Normandy, the fine wax is cleaned and bleached in several baths before being cut into strips and dried outdoors under the sun.

The brand stands not only for exceptional quality, but also for loving craftsmanship. After the wicks have been aligned in the glass containers, the fine, shiny wax is poured in by hand. Shortly before, it is mixed with the fragrance so that it can unfold its full potential. During the hardening process, the wicks are once again aligned centrally by hand. Finally, the surface of the candle is made even and uniform by lightly melting it.

The fragrances of the luxury candles from Cire Trudon with names of personalities from the Baroque era are created by exquisite perfumers. The noble glass vessel, inspired by a champagne bucket, is made in the Italian city of Vinci. A variety of colours ranging from a graceful dark green to majestic red and royal blue to puristic white jars underline the luxurious character of the exclusive scented candles. The beehive emblem is inspired by the bas-relief of the royal wax manufactory and represents the appreciation of its roots – under the sign of the bee, Cire Trudon's luxury candles not only stand for excellent quality, but also an awareness of the environment.

Regular fragrance tests ensure an ideal burn. The scent output is determined during the burning tests depending on the heating and the wick is adjusted accordingly so that a pleasant scent strength is always emitted.

The wick made of pure cotton is particularly strong and enables a clean burning and a most luminosity. An above-average burning time of 55 to 60 hours characterises the high-quality scented candles from Cire Trudon.

All the advantages at a glance:

  1. Traditional manufacturing processes & handmade
  2. Fine fragrance compositions created by the best perfumers
  3. Natural bee & plant waxes
  4. Qualitative cotton wick
  5. 55 - 60 hours burning time
